Quality standards

Acrylic dispersion, pigment (titanium dioxide), fillers, special additives, water. UA VOC limit value for this product (cat. A/a): 30 g/l (g/l). This product contains max 30 g/l (g/l) VOC.

Coloring
Flex white paint is intended for use as a stand-alone white coating or for tinting in pastel, light shades and colors of medium saturation.
The paint is tinted by machine using the Eskarocolor system or manually using the TM Aura dye-paint (up to 5%), as well as other water-based tinting pastes (up to 5%). When tinting with third-party materials, studios or catalogs, it is necessary to take into account their suitability for outdoor work and conduct trial tinting and painting.
To eliminate differences in color shades when painting surfaces with a finishing layer, it is recommended to use products from the same batch (both paint and colorant). On surfaces adjacent to each other, materials from the same batch should also be used in the same color. If products from different batches are used, they must be mixed.
To check the compliance of the selected color tinting, it is necessary to conduct a test painting on a small area of the surface.
It is not recommended to dilute the tinted paint for applying the last layer.
After tinting, minor deviations in the technical indicators of the paint are possible.
When choosing the color of the paint, it is worth considering the illumination of the room, the illumination and placement of the facade elements in relation to the sun and their structure.
The following factors will contribute to the different perception of the same color: warm or cold light of interior lighting; facade elements in the shade; inclined surfaces; elements with different roughness; daylight hours.
Consumption
Per coat 130–220 g/m² (6–10 m²/l) of undiluted paint for a smooth surface. The paint consumption depends on the type, preparation, and color of the surface. The exact consumption is determined by test application on a small area of the object.
Drying time
At a temperature of +20±2°C and relative humidity of 65%: 30 minutes – from dust; 4 hours – application of the next layer. Apply the next layer only after the previous one has completely dried. Drying time increases in case of a decrease in temperature, an increase in relative humidity of the air and depends on the consumption (layer thickness) of the paint. The coating acquires its final strength and resistance to atmospheric and mechanical influences after 4 weeks. In case of prolonged exposure to water (especially on horizontal surfaces), whitening or clouding of colored coatings of Flex paint is possible. After the water dries, the color will be restored.
Surface preparation before painting

Corrugated board, galvanized metal, aluminum.

Galvanized sheet iron should remain untreated and unprotected from the weather for at least a year. Clean the surfaces thoroughly: remove rust mechanically (in cases of a large number of corrosion foci, it is recommended to replace the affected sheets); it is better to clean grease and oil contamination with an alkaline solution, for example, a washing powder solution; clean other contamination mechanically. Wash the cleaned surfaces thoroughly with clean water, preferably under pressure. After washing, the surface must be dried well. If the corrugated sheeting is painted with special composite materials or powder paints, it must be cleaned of dirt and elements of the old coating that do not hold firmly (such coatings do not need to be completely removed). Paint the surface cleaned to bare metal with a suitable anti-corrosion primer-paint. If the corrugated sheeting is painted with special composite materials or powder paints, the use of a primer-paint is not necessary.

Black metal.

Surface shall be treated with a hand-held power tool (min. grade St2) or abrasive blast cleaned (min. grade Sa2½) in accordance with DSTU ISO 8501-1. Degrease with a suitable universal thinner. Prime ferrous metal with a suitable anti-corrosion primer-paint.

Mineral surfaces.

The substrate is prepared in accordance with DSTU-N B A.3.1–23:2013 and DSTU-N B V.2.6–212:2016. Mineral (fiber cement) boards, slate should be painted 6 months after installation and exposure to atmospheric factors. The surface must be dry - the humidity of the substrate before priming should not exceed 5% for cement substrates and not exceed 1% for gypsum substrates. Mineral substrates must be strong, without brittle parts or edges. The surface must be cleaned of chalk and lime whitewash, grease, oil and other contaminants, dust (including after rubbing/sanding plasters or putties), old paint and varnish coatings (which do not adhere well to the substrate), wallpaper, polymer adhesives, and influxes of building mortars or composites. Plaster, putty or adhesive elements must be completely dry and suitable for painting with waterproof paint. Remove efflorescence mechanically. Remove areas infected with mold (microflora) mechanically, and then treat the surface with a suitable antiseptic (TM Eskaro, TM Aura). Level out irregularities with a suitable putty. Sand and remove dust from the putty surface. Treat mineral surfaces that have been cleaned of paint and have not been painted before with a suitable waterproof penetrating strengthening primer (TM Eskaro, TM Aura). It is also necessary to take into account the recommendations of manufacturers of building mixtures or materials regarding their priming. If necessary, contact Eskaro specialists.

Plywood, fiberboard, chipboard, DSP, OSB, wood (use these materials for their intended purpose).

The surface must be dry, thoroughly cleaned to a solid base from dust, dirt, mold, oil or other contaminants, as well as from peeling paint and varnish coatings. Sand wooden surfaces with a hand or mechanical tool, remove the sanding dust. If there is resin on the surface of the wood, it should be removed (with a spatula, scraper, appropriate solvent). In case of infection of the wood with blue stain, mold or fungus, the infected areas must be removed: first by mechanical means, and then the wood should be treated with an appropriate antiseptic (TM Eskaro, TM Aura). If necessary, level the formed irregularities with an appropriate putty. Sand and remove dust from the putty surface. The moisture content of the wood before painting should not exceed 20%. Previously untreated and cleaned of paint/varnish wood should be primed with a wood-protective, strengthening, penetrating primer (TM Eskaro, TM Aura). Dense substrates such as OSB, fiberboard, and chipboard do not require prior priming.

Surfaces coated with alkyd, oil, and water-dispersion paints.

Surfaces previously painted with oil or alkyd paints should be sanded to a matte finish, washed with a weak detergent solution, rinsed thoroughly with water and dried. Surfaces previously painted with water-dispersion paints should be lightly sanded and dusted. It is not necessary to prime surfaces coated with alkyd, oil or water-dispersion paints.

Attention! Before using third-party materials (glue, antiseptic, plaster, sealant, primer, etc.) or if there is a specific base (non-standard pre-painting, exotic wood species, specialized coatings or materials, etc.), it is recommended to check compatibility on a small area of the surface, guided by technical recommendations or specialist advice.

Application

Before applying the paint, make sure that the surface is sufficiently dry from the preparatory measures.

Before applying the paint, mix it thoroughly, filter it if necessary.

If necessary, dilute the paint with water (roller/brush – up to 5%, sprayer – up to 10%). It is not recommended to dilute tinted paint for applying the last layer.

Attention! Do not mix with other materials and/or organic solvents! Excessive dilution impairs the quality of the coating!

The paint must be applied in 2–3 layers. The work must be carried out at a temperature of the paint, air and surface from + 10 °C to + 30 °C and a relative humidity of air not exceeding 80% (the surface temperature must be at least 3 degrees above the dew point). It is necessary to paint continuously, in one direction, with the same material consumption. During painting, it is recommended to carry out work continuously “from edge to edge (from corner to corner)” or within decorative/architectural elements. After painting with the first layer, it is necessary to check whether there are any gaps or unpainted areas. It is necessary to carefully paint over areas that are difficult to reach. The next layer should be applied only after the previous one has completely dried, but not earlier than after 4 hours. The finishing layer gives the coating uniformity, improves the protective and decorative effect.

During exterior (facade) work, it is recommended to use a tarpaulin to cover the facade and construction platforms and scaffolding.

Attention! On excessively porous, rough or high-contrast surfaces, the number of coats and paint consumption may be higher. Mineral and wooden surfaces are porous materials, so the paint consumption or the number of coats may increase.

Attention! Do not apply paint under direct sunlight, strong wind, frost or precipitation. After applying the paint, the coating should not be exposed to precipitation or sub-zero temperatures for 24 hours.

Attention! In order to avoid discrepancies in color shades, it is recommended to use paint from the same batch for painting the surface with a finishing layer. If using paint from different batches, it is necessary to mix them. If there are tinted paints from different production batches, it is recommended to mix them in advance in one container. The coating acquires its final color after the paint dries. When working on large areas and/or for a long time, it is not recommended to keep the container with open paint for a long time.

Additional information for the painter.

The tool should be recommended for water-dispersion materials. When working with a roller, it is recommended to use a cuvette for uniform wetting with the material. Attention! To create a smoother coating, it is recommended to choose rollers with less pile.

When using tools for spraying, the operating instructions should be followed. For spraying, airless spraying is recommended, because when applying with a pneumatic sprayer, the amount of water for dilution may be at the maximum recommended level, which can lead to a decrease in the thickness of the coating or the formation of streaks. To obtain a high-quality coating, the painter must have painting skills, especially when using professional tools.

Paint compatibility with other coatings.

Depending on the operating conditions, Flex paint can be used with various primers and topcoats.

Compatibility examples: Previous layer – acrylic water-dispersion materials or solvent-based alkyd materials. Next layer – acrylic water-dispersion materials.

It is recommended to test the compatibility of materials on a small area of the surface. For more detailed recommendations, contact Eskaro specialists.
