Types of surfaces for varnishing

Wooden surfaces.
Can be used to coat concrete, brick, plastered stone and dyed wooden surfaces as well as previously painted surfaces or surfaces covered with paper wallpaper to ensure their moisture and wash resistance.
The varnish is not meant for furniture, steam rooms, floors and surfaces subject to heavy mechanical wear.

Quality standards

  • EN 13300 [Paints and varnishes. Water-borne coating materials and coating systems for interior walls and ceilings. Classification] – classification standards of coverage, gloss level and wet abrasion resistance parameters for water-borne coating materials for interior walls and ceilings.
  • ISO 11 998 [Paints and varnishes -- Determination of wet-scrub resistance and cleanability of coatings], ISO 2813 [Paints and varnishes -- Determination of specular gloss of non-metallic paint films at 20 degrees, 60 degrees and 85 degrees] – techniques for measuring gloss and wear resistance parameters.
  • VOC (volatile organic compounds) – content in accordance with the European Union directive 2004/42/CE.
  • Product and service quality is guaranteed by the quality, environmental protection, occupational health and safety management system in accordance with standards ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007.

Surface preparation before varnishing

The surface must be clean and dry. Wood moisture content must not exceed 20%.
Remove the old peeling coating from previously varnished surfaces. Dampen rough surfaces, using a spray bottle, let it dry; sand off the fibres of wood raised by dampening; remove dust thoroughly.
Sand glossy surfaces until they are matt; remove dust thoroughly.

Application

Stir the varnish thoroughly before application and keep stirring it regularly during the working process to spread tinting pastes and the matt agent evenly.
If necessary, the varnish can be diluted with water in the amount of 10% of its volume for the first coat. Application in the conditions of exposure to direct sunlight, draughts and high temperature can cause surface defects.
We recommend applying 2–3 coats of varnish along the grain without stopping from one edge of the surface to the other at the temperature between +10°C and +25°C and at relative humidity not over 80%.
Sand the surface slightly and remove dust before applying another coat.
The colour of the surface coated with tinted varnish depends on the species and hue of the wood and the number of varnish coats.
Before applying tinted varnish, we recommend making a swatch on a separate board to check the tint.
We recommend using non-tinted varnish for the final coat.

Care for the varnished surface

The coating reaches its peak hardness in about 4 weeks; in the meantime, treat the surface with care until its hardness and wash resistance have reached their peak levels.
If necessary, the surface can be lightly wiped with a soft sponge or cloth approximately 48 hours after varnish application.
We recommend using water and neutral or medium alkaline detergents (pH below 9) for cleaning.
Do not use organic solvents, abrasive cleansers and hard scrubbing brushes or sponges.

Tools

Short-pile velour roller, brush, airless spray gun (0.013–0.015’’ nozzle). We recommend using a brush for application to provide better protection of wooden surfaces.

Tool cleaning

Wash with soap and water after completing work.

Colour

White, transparent after drying

Tinting

Machine tinting according to the Eskarocolor system

Consumption

8-10 m²/L.

Drying time

Dust-free drying time: 0.5 hour; at the temperature of +20 °C and the relative humidity of 65%, the surface is ready for the application of another coat in 1–2 hours. If the temperature is lower and the humidity is higher, the drying takes longer accordingly.
Store and transport in undamaged containers at the temperature between +5°C and +35 °C. Protect from freezing and direct sunlight.
