Properties

Water-borne acrylic varnish for the decorative and protective finish of mineral surfaces.

  • Provides good adhesion.
  • Semi-matt gloss brings out the texture of natural or artificial stone.
  • Creates the “wet stone” effect.
  • Contains wax, which improves the water-repellent properties of the coating and simplifies cleaning.
  • The UV filter protects the surface from discoloration in the sun.
  • Does not crack and is resistant to surface heating up to 80 °С.
  • Does not discolour to yellow with time.
  • Dries quickly.
  • Odourless.

Maximum permissible EU VOC content for the product (subcat. e) 130 g/L. Maximum VOC content in the product <130 g/L.

Gloss:
• semi-matt (approximately 30) in accordance with EN 13 300.
• semi-matt (approximately 30) in accordance with ISO 2813.

Purpose

For the decorative and protective finish of various mineral surfaces: elements of façades and fences, façade and wall tiles, mantelpieces, and interior decoration elements.
Not intended for the finishing of horizontal surfaces in high foot traffic areas (paving flagstone, path paving stone), polished or glazed surfaces. Do not use on facing brick prone to blooming. Do not use on façades where sectional waterproofing between the foundations and the walls has been damaged.

Type of surfaces to be treated

Natural and artificial stone, brick, concrete, clinker, plaster.

Quality standards

  • EN 13300 [Paints and varnishes. Water-borne coating materials and coating systems for interior walls and ceilings. Classification] – classification standards of coverage, gloss level and wet abrasion resistance parameters for water-borne coating materials for interior walls and ceilings.
  • ISO 2813 [Paints and varnishes -- Determination of gloss value at 20 degrees, 60 degrees and 85 degrees] – methods for determining gloss parameters.
  • VOC (volatile organic compounds) – content in accordance with the European Union directive 2004/42/CE
  • Product and service quality is guaranteed by the quality, environmental protection, occupational health and safety management system in accordance with standards ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007.

Surface preparation before treatment

The surface must be durable, dry and cleaned from salt efflorescence, sand, dust, dirt, oil and grease. Previously painted surfaces must be cleaned from peeling material, sandpapered and rinsed with water. Areas damaged with mould or moss growth must be thoroughly cleaned mechanically and then treated with Biotol E or Biotol Spray, rinsed with water and dried.

Application

Do not perform the application in direct sunlight, at high temperatures and in case of exposure to draughts.  Before application and in the process of working, stir the varnish thoroughly but carefully (to make sure you do not cause air bubbles to form in it). Stirring ensures that the gloss of the varnish coating will be even when it dries. One coat of the varnish is enough for the “wet stone” effect on moderately absorbing surfaces. On porous surfaces, apply the second coat of the varnish in 1—2 hours. Dilute by 25% if necessary. We recommend renewing the varnish coating annually on stone surfaces that are exposed to aggressive weather elements or intensive mechanical wear.

Care for the treated surface

The coating will reach its peak wash resistance in about 4 weeks: during this period, treat the surface with care until its hardness and wash resistance have reached their peak levels. If necessary, the surface can be lightly wiped with a soft sponge or cloth approximately 48 hours after varnish application. We recommend using water and neutral or medium alkaline detergents (pH below 9). Do not use organic solvents, abrasive cleansers and hard scrubbing brushes or sponges.

Tools

Brush, roller, sponge.

Tool cleaning

Wash with water after completing work.

Colour

White; transparent after drying.

Consumption

8-12 m²/L. Varnish consumption depends on the type of the surface.

Drying time

At the temperature of +20 °C and the relative humidity of 80%, the surface is ready for the application of another coat in 1--2 hours and is fully dry in 2--4 hours. At a lower temperature and higher humidity, the drying time is longer.
Store and transport in undamaged containers at the temperature between +5 °C and +30 °C. Protect from freezing and direct sunlight.
