Properties

Solvent-borne varnish based on special solvent-borne acryl resins for the decorative and protective finish of mineral surfaces.

  • Deep penetration.
  • Excellent adhesion to dense and poorly absorbing materials.
  • Faint silky gloss brings out the beauty of natural and artificial stone.
  • Creates the “wet stone” effect.
  • High resistance to adverse climatic impacts and weathering.
  • Does not impair vapour permeability.
  • Weather-resistant, good resistance to abrasion (suitable for paving flagstone). Increases water-repellence of the surface.
  • Dries quickly.
  • Contains highly purified and low aromatic solvents.

Maximum permissible EU VOC content for the product (subcat. h): 750 g/L. Maximum VOC content in the product <750 g/L.

Gloss:
• semi-matt (approximately 30) in accordance with ISO 2813.

Purpose

For the protection of various mineral surfaces from adverse weather effects and for decorative finish.
Application:  elements of façades and fences, stone terraces and pavements, wall and floor tiles, mantelpieces, interior decoration elements, etc.
Not intended for polished or glazed surfaces.
Do not use on facing brick prone to blooming.
Do not use on façades where sectional waterproofing between the foundations and the walls has been damaged.
For indoor and outdoor use.

Types of surfaces to be varnished

Natural and artificial stone, brick, concrete, clinker, plaster.

Quality standards

  • ISO 2813 [Paints and varnishes -- Determination of specular gloss of non-metallic paint films at 20 degrees, 60 degrees and 85 degrees] – techniques for measuring gloss and wear resistance parameters.
  • VOC (volatile organic compounds) – content in accordance with the European Union directive 2004/42/CE.
  • Product and service quality is guaranteed by the quality, environmental protection, occupational health and safety management system in accordance with standards ISO 9001:2015; ISO 14001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007

Surface preparation before varnishing

The surface must be durable, dry and cleaned from salt efflorescence, sand, dust, dirt, oil and grease. Previously painted surfaces must be cleaned from peeling material, sandpapered and rinsed with water. Areas damaged with mould or moss growth must be thoroughly cleaned mechanically and then treated with Biotol E or Biotol Spray, rinsed with water and dried.

Application

Do not perform the application in direct sunlight, at high temperatures and in case of exposure to draughts.  Before application, stir the varnish thoroughly. Apply at the temperature of the varnish, the surface and the air above +10 °С and relative humidity below 80%.  One coat of the varnish is enough for the “wet stone” effect on moderately absorbing surfaces. On porous surfaces, apply the second coat of the varnish in 2 hours.  Dilute with appropriate thinner (White-Spirit, paint thinner, xylol, turpentine) by 25% if necessary.  We recommend renewing the varnish coating annually on stone surfaces that are exposed to aggressive weather elements or intensive mechanical wear.

Care for the varnished surface

The coating will reach its peak wash resistance in about 4 weeks: during this period, treat the surface with care until its hardness and wash resistance have reached their peak levels. If necessary, the surface can be lightly wiped with a soft sponge or cloth approximately 48 hours after varnish application. We recommend using water and neutral or medium alkaline detergents (pH below 9). Do not use organic solvents, abrasive cleansers and hard scrubbing brushes or sponges.

Tools

Brush, roller, sponge

Tool cleaning

Wash with solvent (White-Spirit, paint thinner) and then with soap and water after completing work.

Colour

Transparent.

Consumption

8--10 m²/L. Varnish consumption depends on the type of the surface.

Drying time

At the temperature of +20 °C and the relative humidity of 80%, the surface is ready for the application of another coat in 2 hours and is fully dry in 24 hours. At a lower temperature and higher humidity, the drying time is longer.
Keep container tightly closed.  Store at the temperature below +30 °С.  Store in a well-ventilated place.   Store locked up.  Keep cool. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking.
